What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me?

What Does Discovery Mean?
Discovery means finding something new. For example, in my picture I drew a person discovering a bone. Then the man was going to pick up a bone to see what kind of bone it was. He wanted to know about the bone. It was a dinosaur bone. It is hard to discover a dinosaur bone because they are over a thousand years old. This is what discovering means to me.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?

I did my research on a good professional game called Jump. The website that supports this game is Camadro, Inc. You play the game by moving the green stick figure man to jump and shoot laser bullets at the aliens who are trying to get to the man first. Along the way you can collect coins to get a higher score. To get the green stick man to jump use the space bar, and to move him use the arrow keys. The rules are found on the bottom of the window screen for the game. The game is a three star rating. You win the game by moving the player to higher levels. If you win the game you get to start over.
To make this game you would need tape, cardboard, marble, little green man, popsicle stick, stuffed animals for the jackpot. You would also need three red hearts. To build this game it would be about $50. To buy this game it would be about $50.
You can find this game at:

Design Brief
What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
The name of our Crusie Arcade game that we designed is Pinball Turramaster. To play the game you have to put a bouncy ball on a rubber band and pull back. There are holes on the board that you try to get the ball into. There are different holes you want to get the ball into - like the jackpot. There is a hole that is -5 points, and you do not want to get that. We will give you oral instructions to further explain the mounted rules on the side of our game. The level of difficulty is 4 on a scale of 1-4. You can not exactly win the game, but you can get tickets and trade them in for prizes. You can get tickets by getting the ball into the holes.
Our blueprint shows two stuffed animals on the side for show. There are holes on the board that you want to get the ball into. There is a tunnel over the game and a ticket dispenser in the middle. There are sides on the game that have black duct tape and say Pinball Turramaster.
We would need tape, cardboard, scissors, bouncy balls, prizes, pencils, Styrofoam, markers and rubber bands to build our game. It will probably take 9 hours to build this game. We might have the problem of taping the game and also getting the rubber band to work.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?

Praise: I like your idea of adding a degree of difficulty with the Army men blocking the holes. Your instructions are clearly written.

Question: Have you made it possible to get the ball in one of the “Jackpot” circles? What happens if a gamer only gets a negative score?

Polish: Could you put a larger explanation of prizes or pictures over the “non-valid” 3 points = 3 tickets on your foam board?

Student Comment: Thank you for thinking that the instructions of our game, Pinball Turramaster, were written well. Yes, we made it possible to get the ball in the jackpot. If someone gets negative points they will get a piece of candy for trying. I like your idea about adding pictures and prizes, but I think that the pictures would not work with our design of the game.

Examiner: Mrs. Evans

Date: Feb. 4, 2013

Praise: Very creative.

Question: Can I buy candy with tickets?

Polish: Rubber band needs to be reinforced so it doesn’t break.

Student Comment: Thank you, I loved that you liked our game, Pinball Turramaster! Yes, you can buy candy with tickets. You will need 10 tickets to get a piece of candy. Yes, we definitely had to fix the rubber band, thank you for the comment.

Examiner: Mr. Holgate

Date: Jan. 30, 2013

Praise: Great idea and a lot of fun to play. I would play this game multiple times.

Question: Could you add some color/decorations? What do you get differently for jackpot and super jackpot? Add a “Game Over” hole?

Polish: Have multiple back-ups for your launcher and come up with a way to quickly repair it.

Student Comment: Thank you, I wish you did play it many times. We do not want to add color. We did not want to add a “Game Over” hole because we think the game is good without it.

Make It Better

How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better?
Reflection on Project

What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?

We could improve our game by making it more colorful.

Specifically, how would we do this?

We could put cool tape all over the cardboard.

Reflection on Process

What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?

I learn I can make a cool arcade game out of cardboard.

What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?

I now know we actually had people come and play our game.

What can you do know that you couldn’t before doing this project?
I can tape things better because had a lot practice with our arcade game.
What did you like about the project that helped your learning?
I learned how to make things out of cardboard.
What could have been done differently to help your learning?
We have let the whole school come in the multi and we should have presented it.
Final Reflection:

We could improve Fire Ball by making it more colorful. We could put cool tape all over the cardboard to make it more colorful. I learned that I can make a cool arcade game out of cardboard. I now know that people would come and play our game; I did not know if people would come before. I am happy that they actually did. Now I can tape things better because I had a lot practice with our arcade game. Also, I learned how to make things out of cardboard. Another thing that I learned is how to cooperate and work better with my partners and classmates.
